Whitley Bay really has become my "go to" place for breakfast in the North East over the last few months. There are some fantastic family owned businesses opening their doors to welcome the good folk of North Tyneside with great quality, delicious food and Kith and Kin is definitely one of the very best.
I rushed to Kith and Kin first thing on a Thursday morning, desperately wanting to beat the crowds. I always worry that if I visit somewhere very popular I'll never get a table and from the outside Kith and Kin looks a little on the teeny side. So I was surprised when I arrived to discover there are actually a fair few tables hidden at the back of the cafe so if you do walk past and it looks full, chances are you will find a table if you venture inside.
Greeted by very friendly faces I grabbed a menu and made my way to a window seat to have a good read. There were so many dishes I wanted to try and I immediately regretted visiting solo as there was no chance of me trying any extra food. I'd recommend going with a friend and perhaps ordering three dishes between you (yes, that may sound greedy but believe me the breakfast menu is so good you'll struggle to choose just one meal!)
The main menu features many tempting treats and you'll also find daily specials on a board behind the counter often inspired by the seasons (their take on a Full English they did during the World Cup looked delicious!), also if, like me, you are OBSESSED with Proven Doughnuts you may be interested to hear that you'll find their delicious treats on the counter of Kith and Kin every Thursday morning (and yes, I give you permission to order doughnuts for breakfast, why on earth wouldn't you?)
Of course, my priority in the morning is coffee and having rushed out of my house so fast in the morning I hadn't had time and was gasping by the time I got to Kith and Kin so ordered a latte (£2.70). Their coffee comes from Pink Lane Roastery so I knew I was in for a treat.
Boy, Kith and Kin know how to make a good cup of coffee - perfectly blended oh so creamy and the best kind of way to wake up whilst I was waiting for my breakfast to arrive. I sipped slowly enjoying every mouthful whilst flicking through a trashy magazine and trying not to stare too much at the amazing looking dishes that were appearing at the tables around me (it would be rude to ask a stranger for a bite of their food, yes?)
Luckily my wait was very short and before I knew it my breakfast was in front of me, and it looked just as amazing as any of the photographs I'd been drooling over on Instagram. The Passion Fruit Curd French Toast (£8.35) was the breakfast of my dreams!
Sourdough French Toast with homemade passion fruit curd, lime zest, mascarpone, toasted coconut, fresh passion fruit and mint - I LOVE my food with a bit of colour and the presentation was spot on. I immediately thanked my lucky stars that Simon wasn't there to whinge at me when I took photographs of my food from every angle. A dish that good needs a lot of photographic evidence!
Of course, good food isn't just about looks so I'm very happy to report that my breakfast tasted amazing! The combination of flavours were heavenly - the zingy passion fruit and lime worked so well with the soft creamy mascarpone and the coconut added a little kick of sweetness. It was one of the nicest breakfasts I have ever had.
Hopefully it won't be too long until I return, I have an entire menu to work my way through!
Let me know if you've been to Kith and Kin and what your favourite dishes are, or if you have any more recommendations for eateries in Whitley Bay I'm all ears!

DeleteLooks great! Whitley Bay has so many cool places right now.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to spend a whole day there and do a little food crawl - breakfast, lunch, then dinner (with a few drinks and ice-creams in between of course!)
DeleteThe food looks incredible, definitely adding it to my list for when I am back in the UK!
