So when we found ourselves in desperate need of some breakfast on a very wet and miserable Friday morning we knew that the time had finally come. We were finally going to get to try The Post Box!
Knowing how popular The Post Box is I messaged them on Facebook and they helpfully reserved us a table right by the beautiful big windows, perfect for a spot of morning people watching - there's something very cosy about being snuggled up indoors watching the rain lashing down outside.
We took our seats and studied the menu carefully, the amount of great sounding dishes meaning that we were already having to plan our return before we'd even ordered. As usual I changed my mind several times before reaching a decision and I will admit the amazing looking cakes on the counter did make me consider a sweet breakfast before I put my sensible hat on.
I loved the decor, the cheery daffodils on the table were a welcome promise of Spring and the snuggly cushions made it extra cosy on a cold morning. I could see why so many people were enjoying long leisurely coffees in the Post Box and I wondered for a moment about maybe just settling myself down for the day. They wouldn't need our table back would they?
It wasn't long before breakfast arrived and I was over the moon at the look of my Halloumi Poacher (£5.50). I'm obsessed with halloumi at the moment so it was a pretty great way to start the day. Served with perfect runny poached eggs on wholemeal toast, it was a really tasty dish and not too heavy on my tummy (there's nothing worse than feeling too stuffed after breakfast!)
Simon opted for the Post Box Eggs (£8.00) - poached eggs, toasted muffin, pesto, spinach, hollandaise with crispy pancetta. I never usually order anything with hollandaise as it tends to end up drowning your food, making it a little too rich and filling but the Post Box had got the amount spot on. The crispy pancetta bits were delicious and I may have scooped a few onto my plate when Simon wasn't looking.
Breakfast at The Post Box was just as lovely as we had hoped and hopefully we wont be leaving it too long before we return. It's the kind of place you'd want to visit time and time again.
As I made my way to the counter to pay our bill and caught a glimpse at those delicious cakes again I couldn't help but ask if they serve afternoon tea. No prizes for guessing what we'll be enjoying on our next trip!

I had completely forgotten that you'd said before to try those, kicking myself now!
DeleteSo pleased you made it - I reckon it's been a good 18 months since my last visit so you've prompted me to return. It's my fave spot in Ponteland! I'd love to try their lunch next time x
ReplyDelete... and then cake! They do afternoon tea too!

ReplyDeleteWe go through Ponteland on the way to my aunties caravan in Jedburgh, we might have to stop in some time. :)
