When Simon and I were looking for our dream North East wedding venue there were several boxes that needed to be ticked. We wanted a venue that was exclusively ours, somewhere that truly cared about our day and a place that looked beautiful but didn't come with a ridiculous price tag. If that's exactly what you're after too then Webster's Ropery in Sunderland ticks all of the boxes.
We visited Webster's Ropery on the banks of the River Wear on a beautiful Spring day and I immediately knew that couples in the North East are going to love this wedding venue. The approach to the building is quite spectacular, and getting married in a Grade II listed building with so much history makes this a venue like no other in Sunderland. Built in 1793, Webster's Ropery was originally the world's first patent ropeworks and made rigging for the Battle of Trafalgar.
Walking through the doors we immediately noticed the lovely atmosphere, and knowing that your guests are going to feel at home when they arrive at your wedding is very reassuring for any couple.
Wedding ceremonies at Webster's Ropery take place on the upper floor of the building in a beautiful light room complete with a feature checkerboard floor. If you fancy the red carpet welcome you can look forward to making you way down the aisle like royalty watched by all your friends and family. The room is cosy, perfect for an intimate ceremony and picture perfect for your photographs. I couldn't help but take a little walk down the aisle myself, despite Simon telling me over and over again that we're already married!
Wedding Breakfasts at Webster's Ropery are held in the river view banqueting suite complete with exposed brick walls, and wooden beams. We particularly loved the top table which looks so beautiful sitting in front of the large wooden spinning wheel - a beautiful little nod to the building's origins.
The banqueting suite was beautifully dressed for a wedding and I was amazed to learn that a lot of these added features are included in all of Webster's Ropery wedding packages including the stunning chairs and white table linen. Most wedding venues charge a lot to hire their extras but at Webster's Ropery you get loads for your money, even on the cheapest package.
There are four wedding packages available at Webster's Ropery and each one offers amazing value, having been a bride myself only a few months ago I know how expensive wedding venues in the North East can be!
The cheapest Englishman's Knot Package is £25 per person and includes a Reception Drink, Afternoon Tea, Toast Drink, a glass of House Wine, Table Linen, Chair Hire, Table Centrepieces, Master of Ceremonies, Cake stand & knife, Post Box, an Evening Disco and more. I don't think I've ever seen a wedding package that cheap that includes all that!
The most expensive package, The True Lover's Knot Package, is only £50 (pinch me, I must be dreaming!) This premium package includes everything that the standard package has along with some added extras like canapés and the venue's sweet cart (we had a cheeky little try of the sweets available and they had all of our favourites)!
For couples wanting to use Webster's Ropery for their evening celebration, The Sailor's Knot Package is available for £18.50 per person and includes a welcome drink, hot fork buffet, outdoor wood pizza oven, room hire, chair hire, table linen, centrepieces, cake stand and knife, post box and a disco.
We loved our visit to Webster's Ropery. There's no other venue in Sunderland quite like it, it's perfect for a more intimate wedding and you're guaranteed to get the whole place to yourself so no worries about bumping into other brides on your big day.
For more information check out the wedding packages at Webster's Ropery or e-mail info@webstersropery.co.uk - make sure you get there ASAP, I don't think it'll be long before this is one of the most popular wedding venues in the North East!
