The Proposal

Cast your minds back to last month, you may remember that I did a blog post about Northern Goldsmith's reopening and how much I'd fallen in love with the history of the building.  That night, feeling slightly merry on fizz and romance I made my way home to Simon to tell him all about what a lovely time I'd had, how inspiring it was to hear about people's Northern Goldsmith's love stories and how I'd met a great lady called Helen who worked at the store.

At the time I had no idea that Simon was listening so carefully to my ramblings, and little did I know that he'd been secretly plotting to propose.  Two days after that event he made his way into the store on Blackett Street in Newcastle and asked for Helen.

Helen was wonderful and immediately put him at ease and helped him to make one of the most important decisions of his life - choosing a ring!

Last weekend Simon and I finally moved properly into our new house.  It had been a busy day of loading and unloading boxes and carting things up and down the stairs.  Feeling tired and a little grumpy I dismissed Simon's idea of spending the first evening of our house having a pizza picnic on the floor and instead insisted we went out to a restaurant.

Little did I know, I'd just ruined his romantic proposal!  Luckily he persevered and, adamant that he wanted to propose the first night in our brand new home, he popped the question whilst we were upstairs in a half built bedroom watching a particularly dramatic storm out of the window.  I was in shock and immediately started to cry before remembering to say yes!

The ring is absolutely stunning, and even more special as Simon chose it himself.

I AM GETTING MARRIED!  It feels so surreal at the moment, even more so when we're currently very busy sorting things out for the house.

Our first week as a newly engaged couple disappeared into a pile of flat pack furniture until we realised that we should probably put down the screw driver and hammer and celebrate properly.   We had a gorgeous romantic meal at Gusto on Newcastle's Quayside, toasting our wonderful week with a glass of bubbly.

I'm definitely getting a taste for the bubbles!

As soon as things have settled a bit I will of course be planning our big day.  I don't have a clue where to start, although I do know that, despite being a Norfolk girl, our wedding will be happening in Northumberland.  The North East has captured my heart and I just can't imagine my wedding happening anywhere else.

Any help is gratefully received, if any of you have any tips or great websites I should check out please do let me know.  Also, if you're from the North East and can recommend any great photographers I'd love to hear your ideas.
