North East Staycation

For the second year in a row we made the decision not to get on a plane this year.  The need to save as much as we can for our new home means that we have to be very careful with our spending and so adventuring abroad just isn't an option for us at the moment.

I wont deny that we are a little jealous of friends counting down on Facebook to their expensive trips to the States or colleagues returning from their beach holidays with a stunning tan, but at the same time Simon and I love spending time in the UK and both strongly feel that spending a week in good ol Blighty can be equally as lovely.

I spent my childhood holidaying in the UK and am fortunate enough to have been to almost every part.  Last year we were lucky and went on two staycations, the first to my parent's house in Norfolk and the other to Centre Parcs in the Lake District.  We had really fun and relaxing holidays so we were keen to recapture that again this year.

For our 2015 holiday we decided to stay at home in the North East.  We are lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful parts of the country with easy access to Northumberland, Yorkshire, the Lakes and Scotland.  I can't think of anywhere better to spend a holiday!  So we rented ourselves a car and spent a week exploring home and adventuring to places we hadn't visited before.

We may have been sleeping in our own bed but staying at home was just as relaxing as a beach holiday.

Next week New Girl in Toon is having a  North East "Staycation" takeover!  You can expect some gorgeous scenery, reviews of great days out and of course lots and lots of food - I can't wait to share our adventures with you.

  2. A great idea we are doing the same, the challenge is even staying here how expensive everything is. Adding it all up sometimes it is just as expensive to go abroad which is crazy. Do we want any tourism? Hope you have a wonderful week and look forward to your posts to come Lucy x

  5. Having to save money for a house is a very good reason to spend the holidays in UK. There are so many beautiful places here, it would be a shame not to see them.
I spend all my spare time in UK and I prefer them to a longer holiday abroad, at least for now :)

  6. Good idea - there is so much pressure on people to go abroad and it's not always that great. Look forward to hearing about your trip! x

  8. Oh I do love a good staycation. I really want to spend more time in London as a staycation but have used a lot of my annual leave this year for studying. We're off to Norwich next weekend though for a weekend away which we got via Secret Escapes so I'm looking forward to that. The UK is awesome and a lot of people forget that (I blame the rain).
