My North East Story: Taste of the North

With the arrival of a new month comes a brand new North East Story.   This month it's the turn of Paul from Taste of the North, one of my favourite foodie blogs.   Paul's passion for the North East, local produce and delicious food shines through in his writing - from delicious recipes to knowledgeable reviews of restaurants, Paul is the man for all things North East scran!

1.  What is your North East Story
I’ve lived in the North East my whole life, mainly Alnwick in Northumberland and the surrounding areas.
I met my wife and got married here. We moved to Newcastle just over 7 years ago. Most of my friends and of my family live in the North East and to me it’s one of the greatest places on earth. I don’t think I could live anywhere else.
2. Why do you love living in the North East?
The people make a place. Up north we’re a friendly and sociable lot. But places can make people to. Living in Newcastle now, it’s unreal how close you are to gorgeous coastlines, stunning countryside and the best city on earth. Also all the history that we are steeped in, look at the miners, the shipyards and the castles. Stunning.

3.  Where's your favourite place in the North East to relax?
I’ve got 2 favourite places actually. Alnmouth Beach is spectacular when there are only a few people scattered about. Its so peacfeful and the horizon stretches for miles. The second is Hulne Park. It’s a park in Alnwick that has some great features and is owned by the Duke of Northumberland. It is out of the way so can be really tranquil.
4. Recommend some yummy food places in the North East
Well there are some really good places to eat in the North East to suit the majority of tastes and budgets. I’ve been lucky enough to eat in some really good places especially recently. I like Staith House in North Shields, The Treehouse at Alnwick Garden, Artisan at the Biscuit Factory, House of Tides and more… You can check <http://tasteofthenorth.me/reviews> for everything I’ve reviewed. Ha Ha Ha

5. Describe your perfect day in the North East
A perfect day would be spending time with Mrs S. Heading into Newcastle to catch a film or have a look around the Baltic or the Grainger market to do some shopping. Grab some food at a good place to eat where the acoustics are perfect to hear each other peak then head out of the city centre. Have a little party with my family and friends.  A stroll along the stunning coastline to watch the sunsetting with Mrs S would end it perfectly. A win for NUFC would make it ultimate!!!
