Let There Be Crumbs

After having such a great time at the first North East Bloggers Cake Club, I was quick to arrange the next and so a group of us descended on Roker to visit Let There Be Crumbs, a large tea room on the seafront in Sunderland.

This time I was joined by Lisa, Kayleigh, Shivani, Julie, Danni and Caroline.  We were shown to a rather lovely table right by the window, perfect for looking out at the sea.

Before I get onto my favourite topic, cake,  I must just say that the first thing you really notice about Let There Be Crumbs is how busy it is.  If you were wanting to visit with a group of people I'd recommend that you book ahead so that you can get a table.

It is lovely that the tea room is doing so well and is busy however I'm very sad to say that they do seem to struggle with the amount of customers they have coming in.   We had quite a few problems during our visit including a long wait for food, missing items from our order, having to chase items on our order a few times and a huge delay at the counter.  It is such a shame and I hope it's something that is sorted out soon as it does let the tea room down a little.

The fact that these problems wouldn't put me off returning speaks volumes of how amazing the food is.  I'll just make sure that I pick a day I'm in a dreamy relaxed mood and am not in a hurry.

The menu at Let There Be Crumbs is mammoth with so many cakes, biscuits, waffles, pancakes and puddings to pick from.  If you have a sweet tooth, deciding what to order could take some time.  I could happily have had a little bit of everything.

So much so that I was a little greedy and ordered myself two treats.  First I decided to order a cream tea for £6.95.  I was pretty shocked when I realised that I didn't just get one huge scone, but two.

I slathered the cheese scone in a silly amount of butter and followed that by covering the fruit scone in jam and cream.  I didn't manage to finish them both, but only because I had another cake to fit in.

As always my eyes are far bigger than my belly so to follow that I had a huge slice of ginger loaf which cost £1.95.   It was so good, especially the filling which was really creamy.

The joy of having cake with so many other people is you get to have a good look at lots of other cakes so you can plan what you might order next time.

Some of the favourites on our table that made me drool slightly were the Berry Cheesecake, the Triple Chocolate Cake and the Victoria Sponge.

I am so impressed with how delicious the cakes at Let There Be Crumbs are.  As you all know I eat an awful lot of cake and these really are some of the very best.

The best thing about Cake Club is not only do I get to eat mammoth amounts of cakes, I get to share it with lovely blogging ladies who enjoy chatting and laughing as much as I do.  Bring on the next one!

  1. Oh they all look delicious! And that place looks lovely and surprisingly spacious for a tea room. Such a shame about the service though, and it's something that could be easily fixed by hiring more staff.Hopefully they might take on board your comments as it looks like it has great potential!

    1. It's pretty huge, yet there are never any spare tables. I've been in twice and both times it's been packed out (with pretty bad service but epic cakes!)

I really hope they do sort out the problems, most people I've spoken to have had similar experiences so it's obviously not a one off :(

  10. Anything dedicated just to cake gets my vote looks wonderful. I never understand why when restaurants open that they don't have staff to cater for the number of visitors crazy really. I actually can make or break a restaurant. The cake looks wonderful especially the scones Lucy x
